La Moitié, French for “half”, is a newly opened upscale café and women’s boutique in Guangzhou characterized by two visually different spaces, one side captured in pink and full of frills, and the other black and understated.

The design team of One Fine Day twisted different styles in one whole space, fitting square and circle, woman and man, light and dark, Baroque and minimalist styles inside harmoniously. They tried to fix two storylines into one, and then tear them apart by inviting classical romance and modern avant-garde elements.

Juxtaposed by two conflicting aesthetics, the whole space is easily recognized into two different parts by visual when one is pink and the other chooses black. Color is the magic, by which space turned into two small boxes. The pink box no doubt creates classical romance of women, while the black one completes half of the space with the modern future.

Upon entering the hall, the two sides are immediately visible, and sees a café section with arches, columns and chandeliers in a Baroque-inspired style, matched by an understated retail section captured in black stone. A spiral staircase, sitting right in the middle, is both pink and black, as if to emphasize the sharp color divide.

A mezzanine floor features two secluded private dining rooms, both entirely black, and which are constructed as such that peeks are given of the pink-infused side of the premises. On the upper floor, La Moitié houses the flagship store of Chinese  fashion brand Cheng, and given the store’s different sections, the women’s collections are presented in a pink setting with marble flooring and pink-tinted stuccoes walls infused with Chinese architectural elements, whereas the men’s line is showcased amidst walls and flooring clad in black granite, sculptural furnishings and suspended steel clothing racks.

Like every storytelling, details make a good story and so space does. Let's go through this dramatic space trip with every detail of elegance and gentleness.
